New laws in Florida are having a chilling effect on libraries and librarians, who are unilaterally removing books that have not yet been challenged for fear of outrcy from extreme voices in their community.

Recent polling, both by non-partisan organizations and looking at the individual political parties, reveals that across the spectrum, book bans are historically and broadly unpopular.

Students and teachers decry the atmosphere that has been created by new laws that restrict how lessons can be taught in the classroom.

These are samples of the "Request for Reconsideration of Materials" documents the we received via PRR from Martin County in March of 2023.

In December of 2022, Duval Public Schools provided us with three documents that contained charts separated by grade explaining the fate of each of the 179 titles from Perfection Learning's "Essential Voices Collection" of K5 classroom library books.  These titles were approved to go back to classroom libraries!
